Citadelle Saint-Elme

Built by the Duke of Savoy in 1557 to defend the bay, the citadel now holds the town hall, two museums of sculpture, and a small chapel. Walls thick enough to stay cool in August; ramparts that open onto the harbour, the bay, and across to Cap-Ferrat.

The northwest bastion at sunset — bring a book, stay an hour.
