Château de la Bégude

Old stone walls, a long allée of olive trees, an eighteen-hole course folded between cypresses. The restaurant runs to Provence with technique; the rooms are restful in the way you can only get fifteen kilometres inland from the coast. The Sunday lunch is a local institution.

Drive the back road from Valbonne village at dusk — fields, jasmine, no traffic.
