Walk it from west (Palais des Festivals) to east (Pointe de la Croisette) at sunset and the whole city makes sense — the festival, the beaches, the hotels, the yachts. Daytime is for the joggers; the late afternoon belongs to anyone in linen.

Walk it twice — once west-to-east at sunset, then east-to-west the next morning before nine.
