Place Hannibal

Two-hundred-metre walls of golden stone, narrow lanes built for shadow, and three terraced belvederes that take in the whole gulf at once. The village empties at 18:00 when the day-tour buses leave; what remains is the Riviera as it was a century ago.

Aperitif on the Belvédère terrace at 19:30 — the sea turns silver and Saint-Tropez glows.
